A Day | Gratitude

Merry Christmas to my readers who celebrate this holiday! And, good wishes to all of you in this holiday season, however you may celebrate by your traditions.

Think of the fuss and preparation we make for our particular special holidays on the calendar. It is not possible to celebrate every day of the year that way. Think of how exhausting (and expensive) that would be!

Or is it?

Each day given to us is a gift, and particularly when we can share it with people we love. So today’s post is simply a short message of gratitude for all that is good in our lives.

There is beauty and sacredness to be found in every single day, when we choose to live life that way. It’s the small things all around us, all the time, that give life its true magic.

Feliz Navidad, and may your lives be filled with many blessings, today and every day.

Beauty | See with your heart's eyes, beauty has many faces when we look deeper. | HartHaiku.com

Beauty | Of our souls

Sometimes we forget to look for the deeper beauty in life. Beauty is easy to see on the face of a 20-year-old pretty woman, fresh-faced and attractive by the definition of the particular culture in which she lives. And admittedly, we all love to gaze upon a beautiful face. Beauty gives us pleasure.

But when physical beauty fades around the edges, then we must look deeper. And there comes a point in our own evolution when we realize: The full, deep beauty of a person lies in their heart. Ironically, it is in this realization that our own souls grow to another level of beauty. We start seeing and connecting to people in a different way. We start living from the heart.

Some inner wisdom, expressed by the model and actress Audrey Hepburn, who was revered in her time for her exquisite physical beauty:

“The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It’s the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows & the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years.”

Later in life, Audrey worked hands on in some of the poorest communities in Africa, South America, and Asia, to help alleviate poverty and be an example of what the Greeks call “Agápe”, or brotherly love. She became an icon for beauty yet again, but this time for a different kind, that of her heart.

Yes, (no matter our gender): The wisdom accumulated from our many life lessons, the shine in our eyes, our caring and compassion for our fellow man, our enthusiasm and gratitude for life itself, and a deep desire to keep living it with the full on curiosity and passion of a child – these are what grow us into the fullness of the inherent beauty of our souls.

Singular | You Are

One of our greatest life challenges is to reach deep inside ourselves and claim that which makes us unique in this world. And when we find it, to hang onto it fiercely. If society successfully demands that we think, do, and say the same as everyone else, what kind of road are we traveling down?

If we’re not careful, before we know it we’ll have a Ministry of Truth, shades of George Orwell’s 1984. You may think I am kidding, but… History says, this stuff has a way of sneaking up and biting us when we’re not looking.

So never let go of what is amazingly, astonishingly, wonderfully, gorgeously, remarkably, extraordinarily, uniquely you. Defend your right to think your own thoughts and speak your own truth. The world needs your inspired heart and soul, your fire, perhaps more now than at any other time in history.

When you honor yourself that way, you become a light for the world.

Inspirational Quotes:

“To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best day and night to make you like everybody else, means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight and never stop fighting.” ~ e.e. cummings

“You are unique. You have different talents and abilities. You don’t have to always follow in the footsteps of others. And most important, you should always remind yourself that you don’t have to do what everyone else is doing, you have a responsibility to develop the talents you have been given.” ~ Roy T. Bennett
