Nonconformist | Dare to be

“We can not solve our problems with the same level of thinking that created them”, is one of my fave Albert Einstein quotes. Personally I abhor the commonly used phrase, “It’s always been done that way…” How about you?

Looking at the state of the world today, I do believe we are in desperate need of more nonconformists, people who refuse to see or do it the same old way.

Are you deep down yearning to be a nonconformist, but haven’t quite taken the plunge? A quick, easy read with tips: 7 Steps to Becoming a Nonconformist

Inspirational Quotes:

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.” ~ Albert Einstein

“I think the reward for conformity is that everyone likes you except yourself.” ~ Rita Mae Brown

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

“One of the greatest regrets in life is being what others would want you to be, rather than being yourself.” ~ Shannon L. Alder

“Know the rules well, so you can break them effectively.” ~ The Dalai Lama

“It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.” ~ J. Krishnamurti

Kind | Show you care

Be kind.

Each drop of kindness is a spark of light we contribute to humanity. It ripples ever outward, with healing grace. Kindness is a simple, small act of love. It shows we care about the world around us. It gets us out of “me”, into “what can I do for others?”

It does not have to be costly in terms of time or money. It can be as simple as a smile, a compliment, a few random words of encouragement. But it likely means more to the receiver than we might imagine. In a nutshell, it shows them that there are still people “out there” who care.

Kindness + caring = a happier world. “Service to self “and “service to others” seem to be increasingly divergent paths in the world right now. Which path will we each follow? Perhaps a healthy balance between the two is in order…

So, don’t forget to be kind to yourself too.

Inspirational Quotes:

“Be mindful. Be grateful. Be positive. Be true. Be kind.” ~ Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart

“Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind.” ~ Henry James

“A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.” ~ Albert Einstein

“Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a harder battle.” ~ Plato

Drop | "Just" small ocean drops, but what we think, feel, and do ripples into waves. | HartHaiku.com

Drop | In the ocean

Did you know? You have great power to affect change in this world. I know, the big problems of the world get us down at times. Individually and collectively, we tend to feel disempowered by them. After all, what affect can one tiny drop have on a great big ocean?

Plenty! One way you can make a difference is simply by taking care of your own energy field. When you do things that give you a feeling of personal fulfillment, you increase your own happiness quotient, and people actually feel it whenever you walk into a room. You don’t necessarily have to do anything other than be around them. They pick up your vibe.

And that positive vibe ripples outward. It uplifts them, then they send it outward, and on it goes, until it eventually it becomes a veritable wave. And then we all feel like we have the energy to face and overcome those bigger problems.

This is not an “airy fairy” idea; it is backed up by pure science. Our bodies are 50-75% water, and this recent article from Science Daily explains how it works: How our body ‘listens’ to vibrations

Basically, we pick up and transmit messages from and to other drops in the ocean. So, it behooves us to to do our “little part”, because it actually becomes big in the overall scheme of things. Together, we can create a joy wave!

Rejuvenate | When city voids me, I flee to garden refuge ~ Hummingbird dances. | HartHaiku.com

Rejuvenate | With nature

As I take my daily walks along the river, framed by fragrant eucalyptus trees, I wonder what I would do without this escape hatch, my decompression chamber from the stresses of daily life. I feel in better balance when I return from my walks.

F. Scott Fitzgerald apparently said, “And after reading [Henry David] Thoreau, I felt how much I have lost by leaving nature out of my life.”

Yes, the famous essayist, poet and philosopher Henry David Thoreau not only loved nature; he also believed it is an important part of our human experience here on Earth. Thoreau left us a rich legacy of works about life, freedom, and nature.

Here are just a few of my favorite Thoreau quotes about nature:

“I love Nature partly because she is not man, but a retreat from him. None of his institutions control or pervade her. There a different kind of right prevails. In her midst I can be glad with an entire gladness. If this world were all man, I could not stretch myself, I should lose all hope. He is constraint, she is freedom to me. He makes me wish for another world. She makes me content with this.”

“If a man walk in the woods for love of them half of each day, he is in danger of being regarded as a loafer; but if he spends his whole day as a speculator, shearing off those woods and making earth bald before her time, he is esteemed an industrious and enterprising citizen.”

“He who hears the rippling of rivers in these degenerate days will not utterly despair.”

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.”

“Wildness is the preservation of the World.”

“I believe that there is a subtle magnetism in Nature, which, if we unconsciously yield to it, will direct us aright.”

“Nature is full of genius, full of the divinity; so that not a snowflake escapes its fashioning hand.”
