Spark | Feed your mind

Words on pages shaped my life. As a child, I practically lived at the library! I voraciously fed my mind with many of the literary classics, and those great writers sparked my imagination.

The worlds that they wrote about opened my mind to many possibilities. Eventually those inspiring words contoured my adult life. It was a small leap to imagine traveling the world some day. And I have, for some 20 years now! I believe my life would have been very different without all those inspiring words my mind absorbed as a child.

Reading offers us many valuable benefits, and some you may not have considered. More about that here: 10 Benefits of Reading: Why You Should Read Every Day. And with technology that allows us easy access to books in a nanosecond, there is bountiful and easy access to knowledge and inspiration.

There’s a great big wide world out there, and we may think we know it through the news. But knowledge we access through books is different. Books exercise our minds, honing our imaginations and critical thinking skills.

Feed your mind, light a spark, free your spirit.

Stories | Words shared between hearts, powerful threads of life's dreams, our humnaity. | HartHaiku.com

Stories | Bind us together

We make sense of life through our stories. Life is mysterious, scary, wonderful, big – replete with challenges, stumbling blocks, triumphs, sorrow and joy – and we feel a deep need to put it into words. As Maya Angelou said, “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you”.

When the person hearing our story looks in our eyes and nods, we feel that we are coming home, we are understood, the challenges are surmountable, and it will all be alright. We find delight, solace and strength in our shared humanity, and our stories.

Bloom | Your wisdom unfolds as a beautiful lotus, petal by petal. | HartHaiku.com

Bloom | Lotus wisdom

Spiritual enlightenment, rebirth, the divine. For centuries the lotus flower has symbolized all of these, particularly in Buddhist and Egyptian cultures. It also represents good old grit and determination, the will to endure. A lotus seed can survive without water for thousands of years, and is still able to germinate. And when it does, it grows out of the murky mud beneath the water, gracing our world with exquisite beauty.

Whether you choose to embrace the pragmatic earthbound or the ethereal symbolism, they in fact go hand-in-hand. During our lifetimes our souls accumulate wisdom through our experiences, our willingness to learn, and our strength to endure.

Envision your soul as a beautiful lotus flower ~ growing your wisdom, unfolding and blossoming, petal by petal.

Points of View | To understand you, I must look through your lens too to get a wide view. | HartHaiku.com

Points of View | The many

In this duality world, we all have a tendency to become entrenched in our own point of view. We are trained to see life that way. A or B, right or wrong, etc. “Choose one.” Our ability to listen to and consider many points of view could go a long way towards healing humanity’s many conflicts.

Let’s start to consider the many shades of gray, the place of understanding and compromise. One of my fave Rumi quotes is: “Out beyond ideas of wrong doing
and right doing there is a field. I’ll meet you there.”
